The long road to less toxins in my life….

The long road to less toxins in my life….

About 20 years ago, companies started using more toxic ingredients, chemicals, pesticides and processed ingredients in our food, skincare, beauty products, household, outdoor and personal care products not to mention fashion becoming fast fashion. The reason for this is all based on capitalism, no matter what the cost. It’s all based on how can the major corporations, CEOs and billionaires can make more money but spend even less on the products they make and make the profits even more. Even if it’s at the risk of human health and even their lives.

I’ve spent the past few years cleaning out as many products as possible & still in the process which can take an indefinite amount of time. I have found for myself (and to be fair to my husband) that it’s easier to take baby steps with this. Shop outer aisles, or natural food sections to start. At least buying the top dirty dozen organic then adding on. Try to eliminate dyes, corn syrup and ingredients you can’t pronounce. Go to the farmers markets. Make more homemade meals for the week instead of eating fast food or processed foods. Looks for these labels…..

After cleaning out food, I then transitioned to my skincare, bodycare, cosmetics and the clothes I buy and where I buy them. I have stopped buying any cosmetics or skincare products that are not organic, cruelty free, dye free and chemical free. You can skim through previous blogs of mine for ideas on companies to purchase from and stay tuned for more to come! Literally every single makeup product I use is organic, all natural and I have found some great ones!

As far as clothes, I am researching a lot about where clothes are made, who made them, how the people are treated and paid as well as environmental factors. I think about whether I really need a new item from a giant clothing company, I can get so many great and unique things at thrift stores, consignment shops and from local shops as well as ethical designers.

After that, I started to look at household items that we use daily such as cleaning products, laundry, gardening and lawn care as well as pet products. I found that the more I took away the more aware I became and yes maybe a little obsessed at looking at ingredients and where/how things are made. The way things are made are affecting us greatly and most people either aren’t aware or don’t have the time to worry about it. Not only is our environment affected, but our oceans and the people that make these items.

Not to scare you, because there is a lot going on in the world to worry about. However, I would definitely suggest doing a lot of research and I can give you at least pointers on my blog and social media! Become aware of and educate others in a positive way on these things, meditate, exercise and do yoga to stay centered. So with that, happy cleaning out any junk in your life that you feel doesn’t serve you!! You can watch my blog and Instagram for lots of great ideas on products to try out or just comment here!!
