DIY Makeup Remover and Organic Bamboo Face Cloth Review

DIY Makeup Remover and Organic Bamboo Face Cloth Review

Well I can officially say that I completed one of my July intentions of getting rid of more plastic!! I did fail on a couple of my intentions for that month, but am planning on making them happen soon. Anyway, in the meantime I was chatting on the #ethicalhour weekly twitter group about cutting out pre purchased face wipes and a good friend’s Mom suggested baby wash cloths.

I don’t keep those around but had also seen black makeup remover towels at work (black doesn’t stain),so I looked online and bought a black makeup remover face cloth by Metta Good. It’s a super soft, organic bamboo and cotton fabric that is two sided, so one side is more of a gentle exfoliating side and one is just soft.

Metta Good is amazing because not only do they care about the products they make and what goes in them, but they donate to The Sequoia Riverlands Trust (click link for more info)which is amazing! Also, their packaging is environmentally friendly and recyclable!

I had been using Burt’s Bees makeup remover wipes for years, but more and more thinking about the fabric their made from and what happens to it as well as the packaging being plastic.  So I looked up some recipes and tweaked a few to make my own. I bought some witch hazel by Thayers that has aloe in it and I barely used any, so it will last a long time! We always have castile soap around and the most recent bottle is by Earth Essentials and has peppermint oil.  Below is my recipe, I made enough for I believe a week. You can really use any essential oils you like, I love grapefruit because it’s invigorating and lavender calms the skin.

6 tsp witch hazel (with aloe or add 1 tsp aloe)

2 tsp Castile Soap

2 tsp fractionated coconut oil 6 drops sweet almond oil

8-12 drops of lavender essential oil

12-16 drops grapefruit essential oil

Mix and keep in small, air tight mason jar
