What does “ethical” or “sustainable fashion”mean?

What does “ethical fashion” and “sustainable fashion” mean to you??

We can really make it unique to us, but starting with the idea of needing less fashion, seeking out slow fashion and previously owned fashion. So this can be a number of things, we can make all small changes in our fashion mindset and big impacts will come out of it! If we all do 3 things to make a change, so much comes out of that so write down those 3 things you will commit to and make it happen!

For me, it’s not buying a lot each season and recycling things I haven’t worn in years. Also in this, being very mindful of what you take to thrift, make sure it is something you don’t see yourself ever wearing again. I have regretted giving something up before, however I also needed to let go of so much that I didn’t want to for years. And it was a load off! So go through those clothes and figure out what “sparks joy” lol. Reorganize and look at the essentials you need for the next season.

Write down the key pieces you need to be updated in your wardrobe and commit to buying only those things. Try to see if you can find brands that are using ethical practices. Ie: working with factories that care about the environment and most of all the workers that make our clothes) that they pay them properly, treat them well and even items that are vegan or cruelty free. Read up on the brands you buy and see what fabrics they use, how they make them and any information on their carbon footprint or their sustainable vision/mission.

Shopping at thrift stores, consignment or estate sales can always bring you some awesome new and unique pieces to your wardrobe! Mix it with old pieces or look for pieces that will mix well!

Consider having a clothing swap party with good friends who you might enjoy trading clothes with! You can host or have a friend host, have some light bites and wine and a good time with your friends!

And give away clothes to good organizations like local thrifts or local organizations that support people that need wardrobe for work, for general life and/or for youth needing clothes.
